Hard water
Thames Water classes water at 200–300 mg/l of calcium carbonate as hard and above 300 mg/l as very hard, and says all water in its region is hard. The Drinking Water Inspectorate notes that water at 200 mg/l or more produces scale. [1] [2]
Softeners
If you fit a water softener, Thames Water advises keeping a separate unsoftened tap for drinking and having the installation checked regularly. We can advise on where it should go. [1]
Gas Safe by law
The Gas Safety (Installation and Use) Regulations 1998 mean that only Gas Safe registered engineers may work on boilers, gas fires and other gas fittings in your home. Ask to see the engineer’s card. [3]
