Plumbing FAQs

Questions we're often asked about plumbing and heating.

Do you work on gas boilers?

By law, any work on gas appliances, including boilers, must be carried out by a Gas Safe registered engineer. If your project includes gas work, we'll make sure it's done by a registered engineer and you can ask to see their Gas Safe ID card.

Why is my water pressure low?

Low pressure can come from a narrow or old supply pipe, a partly closed stopcock, scale build-up, or a gravity-fed system. We can test the incoming pressure and flow rate and recommend options such as a new supply or an unvented cylinder.

What is an unvented cylinder?

An unvented cylinder stores hot water at mains pressure, giving strong showers without a cold water tank in the loft. Installation must be done by a qualified installer and notified under Building Regulations.

Can you replace old lead pipes?

Yes. Lead supply pipes can still be found in older London homes. We replace internal lead pipework, and Thames Water may replace its part of the supply pipe in some circumstances.

How long does it take to plumb a bathroom?

First fix plumbing for a typical bathroom often takes a couple of days, with second fix after tiling. The full refurbishment timeline depends on the scope.

Do you clear blocked drains?

Yes. We clear blocked sinks, toilets and internal waste pipes, and can investigate recurring blockages in external drains.

Can you install underfloor heating?

Yes. We install wet underfloor heating manifolds and pipework for extensions and refurbishments, and connect them to your existing heating system.

Do you provide fixed quotes?

For planned work, yes. You'll get a written quote listing the parts and labour. Repairs where the cause isn't yet known are explained before we start.

Are you insured?

Ask and we’ll email our insurance certificates before the job is booked. For gas or electrical work, also ask to see the relevant registration for the person doing it.
